Tom Leamon

This selection of work represents me, primarily my pursuit with the exploration of abstraction. They present an automated process of thinking and doing. My abstractions begin with an embryonic form of subject which then diversifies to reveal a deeper expression of colour, form and shape.
The manipulation of form in my work is an intrinsic process whereby through distortion and confusion I feel able to express my inner fears and anxieties. The application of typography to these paintings is instrumental to the development of the viewer’s response to the work. The juxtaposition of applied acrylics in bright and bold colours, against the bland form of lettering allude the viewer to the deeper meaning behind the picture.
Taking inspiration from recent political events and controversial issues, I strive to create challenging pieces of art that through the process of abstraction involve and engage the viewer.
